Foolproof..
Disclaimer : The following article are of my own views and is not pointed to any individual or an institute.
It is said that 'Mind is the most subtle thing in this world' .
From the past few days, this mind (i.e mine) is involuntarily thinking of all negative things.
Reason : CGPA in first sem is below 2.4 and have received a notice from the institute that all the students below 2.4 are under probation.
The institute had not informed us of any such clause when we had enrolled. And also, yesterday we were given a manual saying the same. The manual also includes people who get two D's in different course may be terminated from conitnuing the course. Point to be noted here is that, the manual was approved on 31.12.2005.
But Design of the course in the first sem is such that "We (Especially Non-IT students) had to pull out the water from the well without digging the well", What I mean is, without having any basic foundation we were expected to construct a monument. This was easy for those who had the foundation in their Under Graduation level.
The institute has a Professor Centric System ..i.e the professor decides on how the marks could be distributed. Some Professors' disclose the weightage and some do not.
How does score gets affected?
The marks does not only depend on your own performance but also on the evaluator and the team members.
There are some lucky chaps (may be hardworking and may not be too) who are really in a good team, and they get good grades because of their team members.
Though you work very hard and your partner doesnt work, it may cost you sometimes. Because, if your partner who has not worked in the project is called to present then it is a gone case..you loose the marks.
Sometimes it so happens that you perform well in all the test and you dont perform in one test and the one that you don't perform well carry more weightage(Murphy's Law).
The evaluators because of their inexperience may judge student not on how much the student has contributed to the project or how much student has learnt but on how much the student knows (whether he has contributed or not it does'nt matter).
There are also many instances where a student doesn't even contribute anything to the project and he gets a very good marks and the person who slogs day and night does'nt even get reasonable marks (Sometimes hardwork does'nt pay).
The reason to mention the above points is that ,I know a student who had worked hard and scored below 2.4. May be it was a hardluck on part of that student! Well, it will definitely affect his morale, is'nt it?Now this student has to score well in this semester. What is the guarantee that these things doesn't repeat again. What are the things (negative) that are going through his mind? How tough he will be..? We'll have to wait and see.
One last point, Though the institute has selected us for the course through the written test and interview, it was also our choice to join the institute. I don't find any reason why should'nt we study since it was our voluntary decision to join. It also proves that, No system can be foolproof and how can we remove this fool from the foolproof is a mystery in itself.

I agree that no system can be fool-proof, but this doesn't mean that we should sit unperturbed doing nothing.we're all matured adults now. We must have a sense of understanding of what's wrong and what's right. And if we know that something is worng, we must stand against it and do our best to ensure all levels of fairness.
I totally agree with this. I am an alumni of the same institute and am totally angered with the action of the management. I am taking it upon the alumni to voice its concern in this regard.
hey..!! i dont know if i will be touching the right nerve here, but i had similar experiences in my BTech. where i came tumbling down from school topper to mediocre collegian..!! And when arguing about the inefficiency of the system, i got one very smart reply from one guy who was still at the top..!! He said "intelligence" is about adapting to the system and excelling in the system. if the system expects u to cram a book and vomit it on the paper, you have to adapt. If the system grades u on basis of team effort, u shoud be intelligent enough to pick the right team from the very beginning. And since then i have stopped being fussy about any system. There are only two ways out..! either change the system...or adapt to it.
And of course in this specific case..to give a candid opinon on the "grades" scenario..!! In the long run...it really doenst matter. And this is not peptalk. This is quite visible in the industry.
Well said. Point taken. Grades forgotten and only focus on work.
Thanks..
