Friendship

I would have sang a song without a music and would have danced without the tune of grace...I would have walked without knowing where I am heading to but I would prefer not to live without you. It is not because I would have preferred my life without you but for the simple reason "I LOVE YOU".....Thank you so much for being a friend. I simply love you.....
-- Sushil Regmi (one of my best friends)

Lot of things has been spoken, lot of things has been written about friendship. There are mails being circulated (in the form of ppt's, html, text files etc ) and also the status message of Google talk also includes things about friendship. But, it comes to reality, hardly it matters and people find it difficult to stick to what they say.

Friendship is a one way process until the other person realizes. The fact that the other person is silent about whatever ill you say, says in itself that he is a true friend. Sushil Regmi, one of my best friend made me realize this . He used to suffer all the ill things that I used to talk about.I continued this atrocity for 3 long years, Until, on the last day of engineering I realized that, he takes all things silently because he treated me as a best friend even though I didn't treat him that way. By the time I realized it , it was time to depart. Tears started rolling down his eyes when I bid farewell to him (in the train), the fact that I didn't cry because I suppressed it. Now, he stays in Nepal and I stay in Bangalore. But, there is a bond existing between us.

Initially, you will be stranger, then you know each other, then there will be differences, there will be misunderstandings, then there will be fight, there will be laughs, there will be outings, then there will be a cry, there will be shouting, there will be silence, then there is a break up,then there is a guilt why I broke, then there starts trust, there starts faith, then it forms a strong bond, without speaking you understand each other, you remain together (you need not meet each other nor you need to talk together) life long!!! If these things aren't there then its not called friendship, it might be called something else. Try to erase those moments what you spent together, if you erase it from each other's mind, then you are not friends. There is no fun of being friends without these moments.

The journey of friends in a ship has to pass through high tides, thunderstorms etc..but the ship has to sail with a strong bond of love, harmony and peace!!!

We meet as strangers, we work as colleagues, we share feelings as friends and we depart taking those wonderful moments with us...promising to live together as life long friends.!!!

This one is for two of my best friends who fought and are broken. Eagerly, waiting to see them together again!!!

Social Terrorism!!

In one of my previous post, World is small... we will meet again. I had mentioned about Orkut being a wonderful concept about social networking. Its such a nice thing that it brings together some old friends who have lost touch in their life. But, at the same time it is a curse to the society.

I happen to read an article about orkut, where an Airhostess was defamed by somebody. Her profile was created by somebody without her knowledge and related to vulgar things. It such a nuisance and disturbing to her to face anybody in the society (atleast in the Indian Context). How will anybody feel when such things happen to them. There are lot of cases that are coming up about such things in the recent past. Movie stars/famous personalites photoes has been morphed and put up on the net. During Dandiya, people are taking photoes of girls using mobile cell phone and using it for wrong purposes. Is there any law or mechanism to prevent this? Even if its there, will it be effective? NO!! There is no use of law.

Though technology has progressed, the values are deteriorating day by day. The World has become small, but the people still smaller in their thoughts.Internet is one of the amazing invention, it is a treasure of knowledge. It has brought social networking, at the same time can we call it has given birth to Social Terrorism?

Happy Birthday!!

The last sunday (Jan 21, 2007 ), I happen to visit an Orphanage. One of my senior along with other friends keeps visiting there and keep doing some activities like taking those kids to Movies, Wonderla, Planetarium etc.

This time these people had planned for Birthday Celebration of Kids. The kids were in the age group of 1-5 . They are always in that four walls of the building. I was given the task of decorating, it was reminiscent of my childhood days where I was so excited of decorating during occasions like Ganesh festival etc. Though over a period of time you lose it, this time it brought me that excitement. The kids who were around 20 in number were very much delighted and excited to do the decoration.

After the decoration, the cake was cut for each kid. After that, some snacks was given to them.
I do not know, if those kids are aware of their birthdays. All kids were delighted to have their birthdays, that too all at once. There was a worker who was in-charge of that shishu mandir who was the mother of all kids. The kids used to call her Amma, Mummy...etc. It reminds me of people celebrating their birthdays with lavishly spending and having parties...There is so much of fervor in it. But, here there is no such things for those kids. After all, its life...we have to live with it. What best we can do is try to bring a little smile and happiness to these kids.

Destiny

Destiny is not a matter of chance, its a choice.

This proverb has always intrigued me. Am I here because I am destined to be or I have chose to be here?. In a real sense you might not have even thought that you will be here and suddenly you are here. And, you think its a destiny that you are supposed to be here . But haven't you taken a choice to be here? . I don't know whether its a destiny or its a choice. Let us see why....

Kiran (name changed), my friend from Engineering College who was in Mechanical department, was an average student. Just like any other people he was looking for a job after the completion of degree in 2002. He was not an ambitious guy to do this or that. He was just looking for a job. Year 2002 was economically down and with the sluggish job market, the chances of getting in to a job was very difficult and nearly to impossible. There was no chance of making choices, only accept what you get. In such a situation he landed up working under some Prof. at one of the premier institute. He worked there for a year in Nano Electro Mechanical (NEM) Devices. After a year, one of the MNC took him in to the research department. Now, He has 6 patents and over 10 publications.

Recently I came to know about one of my school friend Akshay (name changed). We haven't met since a very very long time. He was a humble and modest guy. But, studies didn't go in to his head and couldn't excel in education. So after completing 12th he discontinued with his studies. He started working in a computer store as a service executive earning a salary which wasn't even sufficient for his survival. Later after some time, he along with another friend started a computer store and they did exceptionally well. And, now he is an entrepreneur, who is having 3 stores across twin cities (Hubli and Dharwad) and they are one of the best service provider across the region. Now, he employs people, moves around in a luxury car and their turnover I can't imagine how much it is.

Now, Let us take our Honorable President Of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. If you have read 'Wings of Fire', you will come to know what he wanted to be. He wanted to be a pilot and he was ambitious about it.He wasn't selected in the final round and he was deeply disappointed. He met a Rishi on the bank of a river (don't remember the name). The Rishi said, everything happens for a reason and is destiny. Just accept the things and keep moving in life. Later, what happened all of us know.

In case one, Kiran got in to whatever was at hand, he didn't had any choice. Case 2, Akshay without education achieved something what educated people haven't even achieved. It all happened to him because he met the right partner, at the right time and with the right opportunity. And in the last case, though APJ had chose to be a pilot, he couldn't. From this it seems to me that, its all destiny. Whatever you endeavor, things may or may not happen, whether you like it or not. But, that doesn't mean that you leave everything to destiny, you have to keep persevering for the things you want. But, If you don't get, don't get disheartened, there is something else for you. Keep moving, destiny has some other treasure for you.

The proverb should have been
Destiny is a matter of chance and not choice!!

2007 - Horoscopes!!

Well, the title may seem that I am going to predict the future, but I am not a soothsayer.

2007 - Horoscopes!! was the message that popped up out of my google talk window. But, I don't believe in horoscopes and all , but my instant reaction was to open my gmail account and see what's in there for me. It happened unconsciously, and that too in no time.

Though technology has progressed a lot, but still people believe in it. How many of us doesn't look for horoscopes and try to look for what treasure is hidden in our future?. Well, Most of them do it. And, who doesn't want to know the future?

Sparrows

From the past few weeks I have been noticing sparrows just in front of the hostel in the bushes. Whats special about it? Sparrows have become endangered if not extinct. It was reminiscent of my child hood days where the guava tree and the seethaphal tree was home to these birds. It was a very long time that I had seen these birds. IIIT-B has become home for many of the birds (names I don't know), and it feels so good to hear the chirping sound. Hopefully, the next generation will see these birds.

Murphy Rules : But Why?

Date : Nov3-4, 2006
Event : Code Olympics
Organizers : Anshu Jain, Bhuwan (Alumni ) from SAP Labs (Not aware who else has organized it).

Code Olympics was an event organized for the first time at IIIT-B. It's about developing an application within 24 hours without knowing any knowledge of implementation details. There were ideas that were given and some people chose their own ideas. It went with sleepless night and continued till the next day evening. It was fun since we got to learn lot of things in no time and more over developed an application without the know how of the technology before the start of the event. The excitement of doing the things without the knowledge gives the thrill.

Even we had participated and developed an mobile application for Professors to schedule the classes and talks. Because, the main challenge is there are too many speakers who keep visiting and the scheduled talk are not notified to each other in advance. The Professors can use this tool to get the schedule of classes and talks and come to know of free slots . So, that they can schedule the talk or class. It was good learn these things .But, when the demo started things went wrong and we were not able to execute it. We were given 3 chances...but whenever the judges came to take the demo, It did'nt work. slogging for day and night went in vain, but there was fun, excitement and lot of learning. It was like a kannada saying 'Holleyalli Hunchi Hannu Tolladante (washing a tamarind in river)' which means all your efforts went in vain. Another way of seeing this is it follows Murphy's Law, 'The bread always falls on the ground with the side where the butter has been applied'. Murphy Rules.. But, Why?.

One of my friend said even in industry it happens the same, whenever you want to show the client your application, it does'nt work. Its great to have the first hand experience before joining the industry. Wow..Murphy Rules..But ,Why?

Blind Followers

Today I received an sms saying that : Plz pass this sms to all your friends 5 year old baby requires AB+ve blood for open heart surgery. Contact xyz with abc number. please do not reject, our sms might help.

What will somebody do when they receive this message. They will forward it of course ..and who does'nt , life of a baby is at stake. But, how far is this true? I don't know, just blindly keep forwarding it and where it ends no body knows. Sometimes, I think its all false..because there are so many means to get the blood. There are blood banks, there is radio to air and there is online information available for the blood , there are friends....etc.One more thing is in these messages one thing is not clear, where that person is located. Is he/she a localite? No body knows, just keep forwarding because of humanitarian reasons. Thats it..

There are also sms and mails sent on the basis of God . Pass this message to 5 people, you will have luck , if you pass this to 10 you will get what you want and if you don't send something really bad is going to happen. And these mails and sms are sent by the highly educated people, which surprises me and for a moment it makes me to think should I forward it. It reminds of childhood days, where people used to distribute pamplets (again on the basis of God) and ask the people who read it to print and distribute 100 or 200 or 500 such pamplets. And, people used to follow it. Now, the same thing has taken over by technology in the form of mail and sms. If these all are going to come true, then everybody in this world would keep sending such mails and sms. Anyways, people are blind followers else blind faith won't exist. Sometimes I thank such mails/sms, since a friend who has'nt mailed you at all, will mail you seeing such messages. And, I had once sent a message to my friend saying that "Thanks for having blind faith, atleast you mailed me because of such message."
