Destiny
Destiny is not a matter of chance, its a choice.
This proverb has always intrigued me. Am I here because I am destined to be or I have chose to be here?. In a real sense you might not have even thought that you will be here and suddenly you are here. And, you think its a destiny that you are supposed to be here . But haven't you taken a choice to be here? . I don't know whether its a destiny or its a choice. Let us see why....
Kiran (name changed), my friend from Engineering College who was in Mechanical department, was an average student. Just like any other people he was looking for a job after the completion of degree in 2002. He was not an ambitious guy to do this or that. He was just looking for a job. Year 2002 was economically down and with the sluggish job market, the chances of getting in to a job was very difficult and nearly to impossible. There was no chance of making choices, only accept what you get. In such a situation he landed up working under some Prof. at one of the premier institute. He worked there for a year in Nano Electro Mechanical (NEM) Devices. After a year, one of the MNC took him in to the research department. Now, He has 6 patents and over 10 publications.
Recently I came to know about one of my school friend Akshay (name changed). We haven't met since a very very long time. He was a humble and modest guy. But, studies didn't go in to his head and couldn't excel in education. So after completing 12th he discontinued with his studies. He started working in a computer store as a service executive earning a salary which wasn't even sufficient for his survival. Later after some time, he along with another friend started a computer store and they did exceptionally well. And, now he is an entrepreneur, who is having 3 stores across twin cities (Hubli and Dharwad) and they are one of the best service provider across the region. Now, he employs people, moves around in a luxury car and their turnover I can't imagine how much it is.
Now, Let us take our Honorable President Of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. If you have read 'Wings of Fire', you will come to know what he wanted to be. He wanted to be a pilot and he was ambitious about it.He wasn't selected in the final round and he was deeply disappointed. He met a Rishi on the bank of a river (don't remember the name). The Rishi said, everything happens for a reason and is destiny. Just accept the things and keep moving in life. Later, what happened all of us know.
In case one, Kiran got in to whatever was at hand, he didn't had any choice. Case 2, Akshay without education achieved something what educated people haven't even achieved. It all happened to him because he met the right partner, at the right time and with the right opportunity. And in the last case, though APJ had chose to be a pilot, he couldn't. From this it seems to me that, its all destiny. Whatever you endeavor, things may or may not happen, whether you like it or not. But, that doesn't mean that you leave everything to destiny, you have to keep persevering for the things you want. But, If you don't get, don't get disheartened, there is something else for you. Keep moving, destiny has some other treasure for you.
The proverb should have been
Destiny is a matter of chance and not choice!!
