Murphy Rules : But Why?
Date : Nov3-4, 2006
Event : Code Olympics
Organizers : Anshu Jain, Bhuwan (Alumni ) from SAP Labs (Not aware who else has organized it).
Code Olympics was an event organized for the first time at IIIT-B. It's about developing an application within 24 hours without knowing any knowledge of implementation details. There were ideas that were given and some people chose their own ideas. It went with sleepless night and continued till the next day evening. It was fun since we got to learn lot of things in no time and more over developed an application without the know how of the technology before the start of the event. The excitement of doing the things without the knowledge gives the thrill.
Even we had participated and developed an mobile application for Professors to schedule the classes and talks. Because, the main challenge is there are too many speakers who keep visiting and the scheduled talk are not notified to each other in advance. The Professors can use this tool to get the schedule of classes and talks and come to know of free slots . So, that they can schedule the talk or class. It was good learn these things .But, when the demo started things went wrong and we were not able to execute it. We were given 3 chances...but whenever the judges came to take the demo, It did'nt work. slogging for day and night went in vain, but there was fun, excitement and lot of learning. It was like a kannada saying 'Holleyalli Hunchi Hannu Tolladante (washing a tamarind in river)' which means all your efforts went in vain. Another way of seeing this is it follows Murphy's Law, 'The bread always falls on the ground with the side where the butter has been applied'. Murphy Rules.. But, Why?.
One of my friend said even in industry it happens the same, whenever you want to show the client your application, it does'nt work. Its great to have the first hand experience before joining the industry. Wow..Murphy Rules..But ,Why?
